Vertical slate cladding is becoming an increasingly popular choice amongst architects all over the world thanks to its exceptional longevity, easy installation methods, fire and weather resistance, and above all, its matchless aesthetic appearance.
Natural slate is truly becoming a multipurpose material within the construction and design industry. We have been seeing examples of vertical slating now used in interiors such as hotel lobbies, office buildings and increasingly private residences as a modern and striking feature complementing many other natural products.
However, the most favoured use still remains exterior façades. A centuries old trend, originating in mainland Europe, vertical slating has lately become a widespread architectural phenomenon all over the world and in particular the United States.
The most recent example was commissioned by one of the world’s top luxury retail brands in Beverly Hills. The project boasts SSQ’s own Del Carmen Ultra Natural Slate used to clad a newly refurbished store in the well-known Westfield Century City Mall, Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles.
The 60sqm job, completed by Earl Roofing Inc. in collaboration with Saxon Slate Company in California, flawlessly represents the brand’s sophisticated identity by creating a luxury and sleek finish to the front façade of their new location. The natural deep blue-black unfading tones of Del Carmen induce an intense contrast with the silky gold metal framing to complete the design of the store. The finished look embodies the trend set by this British luxury retailer to add a certain level of uniqueness to each of their locations by immersing into the whimsical character of the city the store is located in.
SSQ is confident that the premium quality of Del Carmen Ultra will not only contribute to the aesthetics of the project, but will deliver a façade which will last a lifetime with hardly any maintenance.
