Of all the places you can install a roof, schools – particularly ones attended by the youngest children – are among the most demanding of the lot.
But with professionalism and perseverance, Derbyshire’s NRA Roofing managed to achieve outstanding results fitting SSQ Del Carmen slate on Millbridge Primary School in Liversedge.
Following a competitive tendering process, NRA were chosen to strip the building’s existing slates and provide robust, weatherproof replacements that managed to retain its traditional aesthetics. Del Carmen provided the perfect solution.
The work was carried out in three phases. Scaffolding was erected on the lower sections of the roof so installers could reach the highest part of the building. This was then stripped and adapted in stages so they could get to the lower areas.
Access presented a number of challenges. While some preparation work was carried out during the six week summer break, most of the installation took place during term time.
This obviously meant that ensuring child safety and minimising disruption was even more important than normal. The site set up had to be confined to a small area of the car park and playground so the school could remain fully operational throughout.
Thanks to careful planning, all deliveries were made to fit around the school’s day-to-day running, and other than the loss of some carparking spaces, there was no other disruption.
“We’re always delighted when our products get specified,” comments SSQ founder and Managing Director Ahmed El-Helw.
“But it’s especially gratifying when they’re used on community buildings like schools. It means that, for decades to come, Del Carmen will offer outstanding performance for generations of students and staff, while helping the building retain its traditional character.
“We want to congratulate NRA Roofing on another exceptional installation.”
